Editorial policy

This site gives practical answers about things that break trips when they go wrong. That only works if the information is accurate and honest about its own limits.

Last updated: 5 September 2026

What we publish

Practical guidance for visitors preparing to use payment tools, enter the country, and stay connected in China. Where a question has a documented answer, we say what it is. Where it does not, we say what usually happens and label it as troubleshooting rather than rule.

Our source standard

  1. Primary sources. Official platform help centres, service terms, payment documentation, and government or immigration authority notices.
  2. Supporting sources. Card network, carrier, airport, or transport information where no platform source covers the question.
  3. Discovery sources. Reputable third-party reporting may reveal a problem worth explaining, but it never establishes a rule.

The two kinds of information on this site

Rules and measurements are never blended

Our compatibility database shows rule-based expectations, derived from published platform documentation, separately from measured results reported by travelers. We do not publish a percentage below five reports for a given combination, and we do not present an expectation as though it were measured.

What we do not do

  • We do not promise that registration, verification, payment, or entry will succeed.
  • We do not publish instructions for bypassing security checks or verification systems.
  • We do not sell paid verification, expedited processing, or any service that substitutes for an official process.
  • We do not accept payment for coverage or placement in our guides.

Independence and affiliations

traveling-to-china.com is an independent traveler resource. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by Alipay, WeChat Pay, Ant Group, Tencent, UnionPay, or any government or immigration authority.

Some outbound links are affiliate links, marked rel="nofollow sponsored noopener". If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This is how the site is funded, which is why the payment test and the compatibility database are free. Affiliate relationships do not determine what we recommend — we list the services travelers actually use.

Privacy in the compatibility database

We collect card network, card type, issuing bank, country of issue, app, QR type, and outcome. We do not collect names, email addresses, card numbers, expiry dates, CVV, or passport details, and the form has no field for them. Submissions are voluntary and unverified.

Review and corrections

Every guide shows its last-updated date. We review pages when an official source changes, when a reader reports a material problem, or on a routine refresh cycle. If a claim can no longer be confirmed against a current official source, we remove it or relabel it as general guidance.

Found something wrong? Tell us with the page URL, the exact claim, and an official source where you have one. We assess material corrections against this policy and update the article and its date when needed.

Scope

Nothing here is official support from WeChat, Alipay, a bank, a carrier, or an immigration authority. For a decision on your own account or case, use the app's support flow or the official provider's help centre.
